Introduction 

The Young Engineers Entrepreneurship Club (YEEC AFRICA) is an educational and professional development organization passionate about advancing and supporting entrepreneurs across Nigeria and Africa by delivering innovative programmes and services that empower young individuals to achieve their full enterprise potentials. YEEC AFRICA is a hub for young professionals seeking entrepreneurial skills and professional linkages for enterprise excellence. 

Our members have access to training opportunities, access to SME Funding and startup capital, savings and enterprise development support and other interventions geared towards financial inclusion and independence of young professionals. 

We understand that you care about your own personal privacy interests, and we take that seriously. This Privacy Policy describes YEEC AFRICA’s policies and practices regarding its collection and use of your personal data and sets forth your privacy rights. 

As a general practice, we do not knowingly attempt to solicit or receive information from children. 

 

How and when we collect your personal data 

This privacy policy applies to information that YEEC AFRICA collects (i) on the YEEC AFRICA website (Site), (ii) through other platforms used in connection with the services that we provide, and (iii) by telephone, email, text message, letter, or other methods of communication. 

When you use our website and or services, we collect (i) information provided voluntarily and (ii) information collected automatically, as described in detail below. 

Information Provided Voluntarily 

  • Member Contact Information: We will collect personal information that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your name, designation(s), employer’s name, job title, contact address (es), e-mail address (es), telephone number(s), and photograph. Such information is necessary to facilitate your access to, use of, purchase of, or participation in our service and product offerings, including, but not limited to: membership; events, trainings, seminars or conferences; customized programmes; and online forums. Please note that you may decline to share your personal information with us, in which case we may not be able to provide you with certain aspects of our services. 
  • Member Background Information: We will collect background information that you provide to us, including, but not limited to, your date of birth, ethnicity, gender, biography, profession/discipline, job functions, job history, education, professional memberships, areas of interest, social media handles, honors and awards etc. You will consent to the collection of certain of this information, in accordance with this privacy policy at the time of collection, and you may withdraw that consent at any time. Such information is collected to analyze member background, process and activate your membership entitlements, and optimize the membership experience. 
  • Payment Information: If you choose to pay for membership subscription, purchase a product, or service, make donations; we and/or our third-party payment processors will collect your payment information, including, but not limited to, your credit or debit card number, card verification value (CVV) number, and expiration date. 

 

  • Enrollment, Registration, and Other Form Information: In order to enroll for YEEC AFRICA membership; or register for a YEEC AFRICA programme, attend YEEC AFRICA trainings and events, seminars, or conferences, you will be required to fill out a registration form and provide personal information, which we will use to process your registration. In certain circumstances, a programme, event, training, seminar or conference accessed through our Site may be jointly sponsored or co-sponsored with another organization. If the registration is handled by such other organization, that organization’s (not YEEC AFRICA’s) privacy policy will apply and be controlled. Please note that YEEC AFRICA is not responsible for the privacy policies of such other organizations or their collection, use, sharing, or other processing of your personal or other information, and YEEC AFRICA hereby disclaims any liability or responsibility in connection therewith. 

Information Collected Automatically 

  • Automated Information: Your web browser or mobile device automatically provides information when you visit our Site, including, but not limited to, your Internet Protocol (IP) address or unique device identifier. 
  • Cookies: Cookies are pieces of stored information on a user’s computer or device that are tied to information about the user and used to provide smoother navigation throughout the Site, such as to store a saved password; to identify user trends, such as page views; and for other internal purposes, such as to assess the effectiveness of the Site. How we use (process) your personal information YEEC AFRICA processes your information to provide you with the services you have requested or subscribed from us, including membership services, trainings, YEEC 

 

AFRICA programmes, events, conferences or seminars and other content. We use this information to refine our products and services to better tailor them to your needs and communicate with you about other services YEEC AFRICA offers that may assist you in your career or otherwise help you in your enterprise initiatives. We may use and store such information for legitimate and lawful purposes, for example, in order to: 

  • secure your membership status and membership administration; 
  • fulfill your membership benefits and entitlements; 
  • analyze and evaluate member and prospective member needs and interests, tailor our services to meet those needs and improve the member and prospective member experience; 
  • notify you of YEEC AFRICA news, activities, programmes, events, seminars, conferences, services, products, and other benefits or opportunities associated with your YEEC AFRICA membership; 
  • send occasional email communications on behalf of YEEC AFRICA Partners and affiliates; 
  • track YEEC AFRICA programmes, events, and seminar/conference attendance; 
  • track entrepreneurship related programmes, trainings and activities; 
  • process subscriptions and payments; 
  • respond to communications and inquiries that you send to us; 
  • respond to a notice of alleged copyright infringement; 
  • promote the function, safety, and security of our services; and 
  • for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. 

Legal grounds for processing personal information 

Consent – we may rely on your freely-given consent at the time you provide your personal information to us. Legitimate interests – our legitimate interests include communicating with our members, subscribers, YEEC AFRICA programme applicants, event attendees, to keep them informed, provide protection and to operate optimally as an entrepreneurship and professional development organization. 

Who we share your personal information with 

Information about your YEEC AFRICA Membership are maintained in association with your membership or profile account. The personal information YEEC AFRICA collects from you is stored in one or more databases hosted by third parties located in the [insert location]. These third parties do not use or have access to your personal information for any purpose other than cloud storage and retrieval. 

Your Personal information may be given to our Partners, Affiliates, or third party in order to complete a specific service transaction on behalf of YEEC AFRICA. Such transactions may include the following:

  • Your name and contact information, as provided to YEEC AFRICA, may appear on membership, registration or attendee lists displayed at YEEC AFRICA programmes, trainings, seminars, and conferences to other attendees, including members, and other third parties, including, but not limited to, exhibitors or sponsors. We are not responsible for use or misuse of your personal information by exhibitors, sponsors, or the like. 
  • We may share your personal information with our partners, affiliates and third- parties that provide services to YEEC AFRICA including, but not limited to, administration/operation support; marketing, promotions, and communications; trainings, programme enrollment and coordination, event or conference enrollment, registration, planning, or management; website hosting; database management; payment card processing; or other data processing. 
  • We also may disclose personal information if we become subject to a subpoena, court order, or law enforcement or other government agency inquiry or investigation or if we are otherwise legally required to disclose such information, to enforce an agreement we have with you, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or the rights, property or safety of our employees or others 
  • If all or part of YEEC AFRICA is merged or otherwise transferred to another entity, we may transfer the personal information you provided to us to such entity as part of that transaction. 

YEEC AFRICA website uses interfaces with social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and others. If you choose to “like” or share information from YEEC AFRICA website through these services, you should review the Privacy Policy of that service. If you are a member of a social media site, the interfaces may allow the social media site to connect your site visit to your personal data.

To help protect the privacy of your data and personally identifiable information you transmit through use of our Website, we maintain physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis.

The Nigerian Freedom of Information Act 2011 provides you with the right to access the information that we collect about you. Please note any demand for access may be subject to a fee, which covers our costs in providing you with the data requested. 

For residents in the European Union, the following additional rights are applicable: 

  1. The right to withdraw consent previously given to us or our trusted third  parties 
  2. The right to request that we delete your personal information that is in our possession, subject however to retention required for legal purposes and the time required technically to delete such information.
  3. The right to request for access to your personal information or object to us processing the same 
  4. The right to update your personal information that is kept with us 
  5. The right to receive your personal information and have it transferred to another data controller, as applicable.
